when a bargain isn’t always a bargain…

If you’re looking to buy a property in Istria – or anywhere in Europe for that matter – you may be very lucky, and still be able to pick up a bargain of a stone house. I say lucky, because house prices in Istria, even for abandoned houses, are steadily rising. But, you may be lucky and bag one for a good price. Excellent news, if this is the case. This is what we bought, before we had our eyes opened. Very wide!

now the reality check

These are the kinds of things you will need to deal with :

* You’ll definitely need all legal documentation in place to enable you to be able to do what you want to do – so you’ll need to know a good notary, solicitor, architect, have a contact at your local Opcina, and probably have a good network of builders, roofers, plumbers, electricians. Good luck with that if you’ve just landed in Istria;

* You’ll need a new roof, new electrics, possibly a septic tank, if you’re not on mains sewerage, new windows etc etc etc;

* You’ll need to install kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, heating and furnish it;

* You’ll need to create gardens, as the outside space will be as unkempt and as unlooked after as your new stone house.

Get the picture? We could go on and on, because we are speaking from experience. And, it’s not easy. You may think you’ve bagged a bargain, but what will follow will be months and months of frustration, stress and never-ending spending. Plus delays and being let down by tradespeople. Because it happens.

But, it doesn’t have to.

Because you can purchase our beautiful Istrian stone house, renovated internally and externally to a very high standard. And then also have access to a network of trusted people, because we’ll share these with the owners of our new home.

You pay more for our home, than an un-renovated stone house – because we’ve done all the hard work – but we can 100% guarantee, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief when all you have to do is unlock the door, unpack and enjoy your new home in the sun.

Oh, and did we mention dealing with the rodents who will obviously have made themselves a nice little home, in the voids between the floors of your bargain stone house? Yep, experienced all of that and now dealt with. So you don’t have to…
